Adeline's current mood:
General Election Saturday, May 07, 2011 I have been rather passive about the election. But I still heard alot of complains about the PAP. Orchard floods, congested MRT, rising cost of living, expensive HDB flats, high salary of the president etc. Floods The orchard flood (Jun 2010): Lasted for 1 day. Subsequently, the flood was under control. ![]() The Malaysia flood (Feb 2011): Lasted for about 1 week. Roads were closed. Many people were unable to return home to celebrate Chinese New Year. ![]() Congested MRT and lots of ERP In many countries like Vietnam, they don't even have a proper railway system. Travelling 1km takes at least 30 min in the City Centre by car. My backside was nearly swollen by the time i alight from the car after a 600km journey to Madagui Resort because the road congestion was so bad the car could only travel average 30kmph. Aren't we fortunate we don't have to suffer the road congestion like the Vietnamese? They don't even have a choice of public transport. Yet, here we are, complaining about the high cost and congested MRT. I think squeezing on the MRT is better than spending many hours everyday on the motorbike inhaling the sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Expensive Flats Well, what could be more exciting than saving money together with your love one to build a home together? No matter how much the home cost, it's this journey with your beloved that matters most. Complaining about the expensive flats won't get one anywhere. If you want something, work hard for it. High salary of the president The president of Singapore earns about USD 2oook per year. Indonesia-124k, South Africa-272k United States-400k. It's indeed a money spinning job to be Singapore's president. Well, at least the Singapore president is carrying out his duties well. Some citizens in other countries might not be as lucky. The president took so much salary, yet there are children dying of starvation. ![]() There isn't much to complain about. Life is good in Singapore. The opposition might be using all those mistakes made by the PAP to contest for the election. But will they be able to do better than the PAP? Could they come up with a better plan for Singapore? And even if they have the plan, do they have the resources to carry out the plan? Too many unknowns. The little mistakes made by the PAP surely do not deserve Singaporean to risk an unknown future. If you look at the whole picture instead of only looking at the 'sucky' things in life, you will find that life ain't so bad afterall. The above is solely the opinion of the author. Signing Off...
